Apple A16 with the iPhone 14 series it won’t be available for the entire lineup.

Apple is gearing up to introduce the Apple A16 with the iPhone 14 series. However, for the first time, it won’t be available for the entire lineup. This year, Apple is going for a route of “less flagship” vanilla iPhone 14 and 14 Max, and “more flagship” 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. The Pro models get the Apple A16, better cameras, and a new screen design. The vanilla ones have the last year’s Apple A15, 12 MP cameras, and a notched display. Today, some of the Apple A16 details have been disclosed.

The iPhone 14 Max and 14 Max will bring the same processor as the iPhone 13 series. However, they will bring a 5-core GPU variant just like the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max. The vanilla iPhone 13 models have a 4-core GPU. The phones will also bring 6 GB of LPDDR4X RAM which is an advantage over the iPhone 13 and 13 mini with 4 GB of RAM.

A new report from Macworld attempts to tackle this question. The first thing to note is that the new Apple A16 chips boast TSMC’s N4P manufacturing, which is an improvement over the N5P. However, it’s not a full-generation upgrade. The new Apple A16 chip will come with 18 to 20 billion transistors and up to 15 billion. The company will also switch over to the new ARMv9 standard. The CPU may bring a modest 15 percent upgrade in performance. Apple will likely stick with the same Hexa-Core configuration.

The Apple A16 on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max may come alongside LPDDR5 RAM. It has 50 percent more bandwidth than LPDDR4X and is more energy efficient to boot. However, both models will bring 6 GB of RAM and there won’t be a jump to 8 GB. As for GPU, the prediction says that Apple will stick with a 5-core to 6-core design. The expectation is for a 25 to 30% increase in GPU performance. Apple will also boost the ISP and machine learning hardware to handle the higher resolution. The iPhone 14 Pro series will make the jump to a 48 MP camera and 8K video recording. There will be significant upgrades on iPhone 14 series cameras, but Android phones are miles ahead.

Last but not least, the company may stick with Qualcomm modems. So we expect a Snapdragon X65 to bring connectivity when paired with the Apple A16.
